Hans Geers is a former primary school principal who worked in leadership positions across both metropolitan and regional schools across Western Australia. His travels across the state built an interest in the local areas environment and sustainability issues. His last school, Brookman PS in Langford was acknowledged state-wide for its high-level achievements including winning the prestigious WA Education Department’s ‘2018 Primary School of the Year’; and the 2018, 2019 and 2020 ‘Governor’s Primary STEM Award for Leadership Excellence’ after having also won the ‘2017 Governor’s Primary STEM Award for Meritorious Leadership’.

The school is also acknowledged as a leader in Aboriginal education and worked diligently on facets of the importance of ‘country’. In recent years, the school worked closely with SERCUL staff member Natasha Bowden in commencing a revegetation project of land owned by and adjacent to, the school, with every student planting a number of plants. An outdoor ‘classroom was also established to support student learning through cross curriculum learning with links to the local environment.

As an individual interested in environmental issues and the broader education of students and the broader community being on the SERCUL Board provided me with an opportunity to support SERCUL’s mission and objectives
